![]() Unfortunately, this is a very flawed novel.Ī comparison to Abercrombie comes easily, and that has to do with the smoothly written prose, interesting characters and focus on mercenary bands. He takes his time to make Cooper and the rest likeable and understandable. The opening chapters in which Cooper leaves home are anything but rushed. He takes great interest in the emotional paths of his characters. ![]() What I got was a remarkably touching story, and smoothly written too. In his novel, trolls invented a new kind of sound which they called “Music With Rocks In”, becoming a runaway sensation of course.īut Eames isn’t aping Pratchett, and his novel is not a gag reel. Twenty-four years ago, Terry Pratchett attempted something similar (successfully, of course) with Soul Music (1994).
