He takes his time to make Cooper and the rest likeable and understandable. The opening chapters in which Cooper leaves home are anything but rushed. In his novel, trolls invented a new kind of sound which they called “Music With Rocks In”, becoming a runaway sensation of course.īut Eames isn’t aping Pratchett, and his novel is not a gag reel. Twenty-four years ago, Terry Pratchett attempted something similar (successfully, of course) with Soul Music (1994). References to modern music culture abound. ![]() One day his old band member Gabriel shows up to ask him to “get the band back together” and to “hit the road” to rescue Gabriel’s daughter. Clay Cooper used to be part of the band Saga, but he’s an old man now with a family. ![]() ![]() They have cool names, fanboys and booking agents. Here it is: in the fantasy world of Nicholas Eames, bands of mercenaries are treated the way rock bands are in our world. When hearing the premise of this novel, one might expect this to be one long gag reel. ![]()
